Good Bye Father
So much was going throw my mind as I tried to change my exam. It aggravated me that my father had just gone off to war. Would he come back in one piece or would he be placed in a coffin with a grave marked Davis McShee 1961-2007. It was I, and only I who felt this way. My little sister, Meredith, didn’t understand what is happening and didn’t feel what I felt.
I couldn’t keep my mind on my exam and just as I got half way through it the bell rang. I begged Mr. Breller to let me come after school and finish my exam but he said there is no possible way that he could make it because he had a funeral to go to for his brother who died in the Air Force. I sighed and went outside to pick up my little sister.
I met her outside and started to walk her home. When Meredith let go of my hand and I saw her sprinting towards the house because she saw that the front door was open. I ran after her as she was in jeopardy because there could be a robber or some thief in there but no, just movers taking our stuff and putting wonderful new leather furniture in there. I ran to the door and asked what was going on. They said, “You are going to an orphanage, your father has been reported missing and you will be in the state’s care for a while until they find him.” I saw my sister tearing up and I assured her it would be okay. I could feel her pain because we both shared affection towards our missing father. I knew the chances of them finding him were slim but I still had hope. We walked down to the orphanage with our dog Thunder but they wouldn’t allow him to come and stay with us.
The orphanage was squalor with tiny infants bore from young mothers which were crying continuously. I couldn’t believe people actually inhabited this awful place. I felt like a captive of such a scary, filthy, disgusting place that I would call me my home. My sister and I both wanted to go try and find my father but I don’t understand how we could find him when he was out in a great desert in Arizona. We would have to go all the way from Los Angles, where exhaust filled the air and there was nothing but people, but in Arizona it was dry and an arid place. We figured if we would sneak outside we would be able to go get Thunder from the pound. We managed the to get out but we had to use fake names to get Thunder away from the guard. We were beginning a drastic mission down to a open desert. We went back to my house to get my life savings from under the board to pick up water and bread because we were very ravenous. It was a long journey so we had to conserve food for the terribly long ride on my dad’s old four wheeler. We had ridden for a long time and we were now in the territory of Nevada and we were almost out of food. We were becoming very hungry and tired. It was a life or peril situation. We went to barter at a market place but it was more complicated than we had both thought. We would have had a good deal but Meredith was being to arrogant and the man decided to just forget about it. I felt Thunder was detaining us so we traded him for $150. Meredith cried but I thought she could deal with it.
There was an incredible sand storm so we had to put our shirts over our face. We started to see a speck in the distance. I speeded up to see what it was but I still had to compete with the sand in the face. I felt ecstasy when I could tell it was a human, possibly my dad. I got off the four wheeler and sprinted to see who it was. I could feel God was about to give me the best blessing of my life. I just knew it was my dad, I could feel it in my soul. It came closer and it was him. Meredith and I both screamed as if we had both just been stabbed. We yelled, “Daddy.” We both ran to him and hugged him but he winced in pain. I looked down and noticed a cut as long as a foot. We brought the four wheeler to him and took him to the hospital and there he got extensive care to his wound and he was able to buy an apartment for us and give us and wonderful him to live in.
